Welcome back to The AI Field.

Anthropic just handed the public its most powerful model ever, with hard safety limits baked in. Apple rebuilt Siri on Google Gemini and gave it its own app. And OpenAI quietly filed for an IPO, then announced the secret itself. Three giants, three very different ways of going mainstream.

Let's break it down.

The AI Field: Anthropic released Claude Fable 5 on Tuesday, the first public version of the Mythos model that was previously locked to critical infrastructure partners. It beats every model Anthropic has ever shipped publicly, and it comes wrapped in guardrails. This is the most powerful AI you can use today.

Key details:

  • Fable 5 blocks responses in high-risk areas like cybersecurity, biology, and chemistry, falling back to Claude Opus 4.8 in under 5% of sessions

  • Pricing is $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, double the price of Opus 4.8

  • It's included in Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans for free until June 22, then moves to usage credits

  • Anthropic now requires 30-day data retention on all Fable and Mythos traffic, even for enterprises with zero-retention agreements

Why This Matters: Days before this launch, Anthropic publicly asked rival labs to build a coordinated brake pedal for frontier AI. Then it shipped its most powerful model anyway, with the brakes built in. Safety is no longer a press release. It's a product feature.

The AI Field: At WWDC on Monday, Apple finally delivered the Siri overhaul it promised two years ago. The new Siri is conversational, sees what's on your screen, and lives in its own dedicated app. The surprise is under the hood: Google Gemini powers it.

Key details:

  • Apple built its next-gen Apple Foundation Models in collaboration with Google's Gemini family

  • AI now runs through everything: Photos gets Reframe and Extend editing, dictation works systemwide, and Shortcuts builds workflows from plain text prompts

  • iOS 27 reaches back to the iPhone 11, Apple's widest release ever

  • It was Tim Cook's last WWDC as CEO. John Ternus takes over
    September 1

Why This Matters: Apple spent two years pretending it could catch up alone, and this keynote was the admission that it can't. Renting Google's brain gets Siri competitive overnight. But it also means the iPhone's AI future now runs through Mountain View.

The AI Field: OpenAI confidentially filed S-1 paperwork with the SEC on Monday, then announced it because, in the company's words, they expected it to leak anyway. It comes one week after Anthropic's filing and days before SpaceX starts trading. The AI IPO race is officially on.

Key details:

  • OpenAI is valued at more than $850 billion and could list as soon as Q4 2026

  • Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are reportedly preparing the offering

  • Bloomberg puts the current AI-heavy IPO pipeline at $3.6 trillion in combined value

Why This Matters: For years, frontier AI ran on private mega-rounds, and that money is now tapped. Wall Street is the next funding source, and it demands something private investors didn't: real financials, every quarter. We're about to see what these companies actually earn.

Sponsored tools are marked with an *

Base44 * - Build fully functional web apps without writing a single line of code. Describe what you want in plain language and Base44 builds it for you in seconds. If you have ever had an idea for a tool or app but no dev skills to make it happen, this is the fastest way to go from concept to working product.

🎛️ Dune Keypad - A three-key Mac keypad that reconfigures itself based on the app you're in, with Claude integration.

🎙️ Wispr Flow - AI dictation that strips the "ums" and formats as you speak. The app Apple just tried to copy at WWDC.

📧 sanebox * - Sanebox is an AI-powered email service that automatically sorts your inbox. It learns which emails matter to you and moves the rest into folders like "SaneLater," so you only see what actually needs your attention. Works with Gmail, Outlook, and most other email providers without requiring you to switch clients.

🔥 THE AI FIELD'S TAKE

This was the week frontier AI stopped being a spectator sport. Anthropic put a Mythos-class model in your hands. Apple put Gemini in a billion pockets. OpenAI started the paperwork to put its shares in your portfolio.

Notice what each company traded to get there. Anthropic accepted mandatory data retention to ship safely. Apple accepted Google's models to ship at all. OpenAI is accepting quarterly earnings scrutiny to keep the money flowing.

The frontier doesn't come to the mainstream for free. Everyone paid a toll this week. The only question is which toll turns out to be the expensive one.

🧠 AI IN ACTION

How to try Claude Fable 5 before it leaves subscription plans on June 22:

  1. Open claude.ai and log in to a Pro, Max, or Team plan

  2. Open the model picker and select Claude Fable 5

  3. Give it a long, multi-step task. That's where it pulls furthest ahead, think "audit this whole codebase" or "plan and draft my product launch"

  4. Compare the result against Opus 4.8 on the same prompt. You'll see the difference

💡 Try this Prompt

ChatGPT's memory just got its biggest upgrade yet. Before you let it remember more, audit what it already knows.

Tool: ChatGPT (works in Claude too)

Prompt: "Tell me everything you remember about me, organized by category: work, preferences, projects, and personal details. Flag anything that seems outdated or wrong, then ask me three questions that would most improve your picture of what I'm working on right now."

What you'll get: A full inventory of your AI's memory, plus a fast way to correct it.

👀 WHAT TO WATCH

SpaceX prices its IPO Thursday and starts trading Friday under SPCX. The biggest listing ever, and a live test of how public markets value AI-adjacent infrastructure.

Claude Fable 5 leaves Pro, Max, and Team plans on June 23 and moves to usage credits. Try it free while you can.

OpenAI's S-1 will eventually go public, and with it the first real look at the company's financials. Watch for the leak OpenAI already predicted.
